Matt Powers Named Director of Generals Academy and 16U Head Coach

The Northeast Generals are excited to announce that we have hired Matt Powers to be the Director of Generals Academy and the 16U Head Coach.

 

Matt comes to the Generals with an impressive resume both on the ice and in the classroom.  Matt has Coached for the past 10 years after a successful Junior Career with the Jersey Shore Wildcats.  Matt served as the Director of Player Development with the Howard Huskies along with being their 16U Head Coach for 7 years.  Last year Matt was named Head Coach and Director of Player Development for the Baltimore Stars and Head Coach of both the 16U and 14U Tier 1 teams.

 

In addition to Matt’s impressive Coaching resume he has also been a teacher in the Howard County Public School System since 2017.  His focus has been on History but he brings a range of knowledge in all subjects to our classroom setting.

 

Matt is also the owner of PowerSKATE Hockey Training School where he has helped countless players reach high level’s of junior hockey and NCAA D1 and D3 schools.  Matt has a selfless style of Coaching that highlights the players strengths while working on improving their overall game.

President of Hockey Operations and NAHL Head Coach Bryan Erikson added “We had an exhaustive search to fill this position with over 70 applicants.  It became very clear early that Matt was the right candidate.  Eric Progen and I were very impressed with Matt’s passion for the sport, education and the betterment of the individual.  His goals align with the organizations goal of helping to not only improve the player but improve the person.  We are very excited to add someone of Matt’s caliber to the Northeast Generals!”
