The Northeast Generals are in the win column following a 5-2 victory over the Oklahoma Warriors in their opening NAHL Showcase matchup.
The Generals, along with all the league’s teams, travelled to Blaine, Minnesota, for the annual showcase event. The Gens, scheduled to take on Oklahoma, the Watertown Shamrocks, and the Chippewa Steel in three consecutive days, improved their early-season record to 1-3-1-0 with the victory on day one.
Logan Poulin continued proving his talents at the NAHL level. Following a season with 53 goals and 85 points with Nauset High School, the rookie finished the night with a pair of goals and an assist to give him four goals and six points in his first five career NAHL games.
Joseph Lugar gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, but Spencer Hirsch and Alec Hall countered in the middle frame to swing the Generals into the lead. Poulin’s first goal then increased the lead to 3-1, heading into the third.
Poulin’s second reestablished a two-goal buffer following Oklahoma’s Ronnie Wade’s second goal of the season. Finally, Mikey Bartkowski, who returned from a pre-season injury to play his first game of the year, capped off the scoring for a 5-2 final.
Will Mizenko secured his first win in net for the Generals, stopping 18 of 20 shots. Mizenko was recently acquired through a trade with the Minot Minotauros. This was his 20th career Junior victory.
The Generals’ special teams once again delivered an outstanding performance. The power play continued to light the lamp, finishing 2/3 and now leading the East Division with a 27.3% success rate. Their penalty kill stuffed 6 of 7 attempts, and it sits fourth in the East at 87.5%.
The busy showcase schedule continues Friday with a 3:30 EST matchup with Watertown.
