Generals travel to New Jersey in final road series of March

The Generals continued their travels in the month of March, visiting the New Jersey Titans for the final time this regular season over the weekend in a two game series. The Gens fell in both games, falling 5-2 and 6-3 on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16. 

 

The Titans got the jump on the Generals early in Friday’s game, scoring twice in the first six and a half minutes into the game before defenseman Brendan Kimball scored a powerplay goal 12 minutes in to make it 2-1. New Jersey potted another late in the period to make it 3-1 at the end of the first. Forward Sixten Jennersjo brought the game within one once more 14 and a half minutes into the second period, before New Jersey responded less than 40 seconds later to make it 4-2. The Titans potted an insurance goal 15 minutes into the third to make it 5-2, which stood as the final. 

 

Goaltender Peter Wickström Stumer got the start in game one after dealing with injury, stopping 20 of 24 shots he saw before Goaltender Toby Hopp came in relief. Hopp stopped 17 of the 18 shots he saw later in the game. Jennerjso led the Gens in points with two, playing a part in both goals scored by Northeast. 

Game two saw the Gens get the early jump this time on New Jersey, with forward Jacob Wilson making it a 1-0 game only three and a half minutes into the game in favor of Northeast. The Titans responded three and a half minutes later, before forward Andrew Delladonna gave the Generals the lead once more 18 and a half minutes into the period at 2-1. New Jersey responded often in the second, scoring twice in the first six and a half minutes of the period once more to make it 3-2, before Defenseman Matthew DeSpirit tied the game a minute later to make it 3-3. The home team Titans responded with a goal of their own two minutes later to make it 4-3 through two, before scoring two insurance goals late in the third to confirm the win, making the final score 6-3 in favor of New Jersey.   

 

Hopp got the start in game two, stopping 32 of the 37 shots he saw in his first start on the weekend before being relieved by Wickström Stumer late in the third. Wickström Stumer stopped the single shot he saw late in the third. DeSpirit led the team in points with two, picking up an assist to pair with his goal in the game. 

 

With only six regular season games remaining, the Generals will return home to the New England Sports Village this weekend to host the New Hampshire Mountain Kings on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23. Both games will be at 7:00 PM EST. The final game in the month of March for the Gens will take place on the following Tuesday, March 26, with Northeast traveling to New Hampshire to take on the Mountain Kings once more. That game will take place at 6:30 PM EST at the Tri-Town Ice Arena.
