The Northeast Generals will hit the ice in Maine for a rare midweek game against the Nordiques on Tuesday night.
The meeting marks the fourth of the season between the two sides, with three in total remaining in the final 11 games.
The Generals fell back into 5th place in the East Division following a weekend split against the New Jersey Titans; however, they head to Maine on a winning note with a 4-3 shootout victory on Saturday night.
Friday night’s 4-2 loss to the Titans resulted in the slip back to 5th, with New Jersey taking over 4th. The Titans scored a late pair of opening-period goals and two more in the final frame while being backstopped by a superb performance by goaltender Tyler Rounds, who made 48 combined saves. Rich Rucireto and Owen O’Rear found the back of the net for the Gens, who dominated the majority of the game, outshooting the Titans 24-4 in the third period, and 50-24 overall.
Saturday’s matchup was another back-and-forth affair, resulting in a lengthy shootout to showcase a victor. This time, the Gens opened the scoring with back-to-back first-period goals by O’Rear and Kody Moyer. Andrew Gibbons helped build a 3-1 lead early in the third. New Jersey’s offense came mostly off the stick of Skogen Schrott, who finished with three points, including a pair of goals. Johnathan Lanza scored the Titans’ game-tying goal.
The shootout required nine shooters aside. Will Mizenko made six consecutive saves to allow Beckett Hinchsliff’s goal to stand as the shootout winner. Logan Poulin was the only other General to score in the skills competition.
Heading into Maine, the Generals have a chance to retake 4th place with a single point. The Nordiques currently sit in third place with a 29-15-2-1 record. The Generals are 24-18-5-1 with seven points sitting between themselves and the Nordiques.
